6th Day Brown Ale - Retired

Goose Island Beer Company - United States

Seasonal: Winter,Fall

Available in 12oz bottles

Alcohol Content: 8.30% by volume

Every year to celebrate the holiday season, we brew up our Sixth Day, and with each year we change the recipe slightly so that you have something special to look forward to.

Dark, murky brown pond water in color, Sixth Day is clearly unfiltered, allowing the yeast to develop the beer over the next year per their label. It's short light khaki foam collapses into a ring around the glass below dish soap-like spots of lace.

Sixth Day has a unique and festive potpourri spice nose that peruses through soft molasses cookies, burnt brown sugar notes and English toffee, greeting an equally peculiar scent of Worcestershire sauce and pine with faint rubbing alcohol trailing off in the background.

Thinning alcohol makes its way through this malty brown base of caramel and toffee notes to cut through the unique spice blend that, like the aroma, suggests potpourri. Mistletoe and molasses cookies fade out with holiday cheer.

Wonderfully constructed, the feel of Sixth Day has a robust maltiness and provides great support and sweetness while being balanced by spice notes and cut by alcohol warmth; all aspects that elevate a holiday beer!

Sixth Day maintains Goose Island's unique approach to a holiday ale with their brown but this time ramping it up in ABV and with it, changing the profile to more suitably provide some much needed warmth in the Midwest. Potpourri, molasses cookies, caramel, and toffee make for a great aroma and flavor profile as well, further lending this beer to the holiday season!
