Pours dark and hazy, reddish-brown body with a small, lumpy, frothy head that is well retained. Thick walls of foam lead into clumpy, broken flares and clouds of lacing. Aromas include light caramel and biscuit in the malt base, along with hints of ripe apple, burnt honey, and some toast. Hops are mild and fruity, suggesting notes of flowers and a tangerine reduction. Flavors follow suit, showing a maltier profile than perhaps any of the other 9 single hop beers in the series. I dare say there are some barleywine characteristics going on here, with drying alcohol showing amidst notes of caramel, toasted honey, and fruitcake. Citrusy grapefruit and orange hops lend a good amount of bitterness, especially on the back end, but the caramel malt still largely dominates. The palate sports a medium-plus body, with light carbonation and a drying astringency on the finish.
